- A wonderful teacher and a very nice edition.Reading in The Hirsch Chumash is a thrilling experience. Rav S.R. Hirsch must have been a wonderful teacher, a real "magister maximus". The formulation of his comments on the Torah puts the reader in front of a great man who was not only a pious Jew but also a German professor who had an impressive command of didactical knowledge. If you happen to be like me, a person who is fascinated by the Torah but with some shortages in his knowledge of Hebrew, then this is THE Chumash to buy. For Rav Hirsch gives you an explanation which frequently delves in the field of the Holy Language. Try to have a good etymological Hebrew dictionary at your disposition, this helps a lot. The printing is a real pleasure. The font is very readable in the Hebrew as well as in the English text, even if your eyesight happens to be a bit deficient. The five volumes have a beautiful binding too.
