Uman Rosh Hashanah With The Real Tzaddik

Every year, tens of thousands of Jews around the world travel to a small Ukrainian town called Uman to spend the Rosh HaShanah holiday. Here they will gather around the gravesite of a 19th-century Chassidic Rebbe – Rebbe Nachman of Breslov – and pour out their prayers and requests for a sweet new year. Why this place? And why this Rebbe? Chazal explain that many righteous Jews are known as “tzaddik.” But in every generation, there is one extraordinary tzaddik – a tzaddik emes – who provides merit for the entire world. This tzaddik is even more powerful after he dies. Rebbe Nachman was such a tzaddik. During his lifetime, Rebbe Nachman made many extraordinary claims to prove his greatness. His biggest claim was “My Rosh HaShanah is above everything else. If someone merits to be by me for Rosh HaShanah, it is fitting for him to be very, very happy.” And so, hundreds of years after his passing, tens of thousands of Jews come to Uman to be with the Rebbe.
