Reviews:
“Rabbi Ishayek combines the wisdom of ancient scholars … and other principles of Jewish dietary law together with the most recent scientific research and evidence-based medicine. Rabbi Ishayek possesses unique wisdom and is a keen observer of human behavior. His understanding, knowledge, and wisdom are all evident in this book. As a physician, I enjoyed reading the book, and I myself follow what Rabbi Ishayek preaches. I recommend this book to my family and friends, as well as to my patients. I believe that any person who follows the principles described herein — concerning eating, drinking water and general behavior — will live a longer, healthier and better life.”
– Jacob Shani, M.D., FACP, FACC, FSCAI, Professor of Medicine, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine
Approbations:
“It would be wonderful if this book would reach... ...every community and inspire them to preserve their health!”
– Hagaon Harav Chaim Walkin shlita
“Rabbi Ishayek has received much praise for his sefarim, and Gedolei Yisrael expressed their appreciation and their haskamah to publish them throughout the world. I support him wholeheartedly, and may Hashem be with him to be mezakeh the rabbim.”
– Hagaon Harav Mendel Silber shlita
About the Author
Rabbi Yechezkel Ishayek is well known throughout the Jewish religious world, as he was the right-hand man of Rav Elazar Menachem Mann Shach, zt”l for many years. Rabbi Ishayek grew up in Bnei Brak, where he spent 20 years learning in the famed Ponevezh Yeshivah. Throughout the years, while serving as Rav Shach’s caretaker, he educated himself extensively about medical issues. In 5760/2000 Rabbi Ishayek launched a campaign against cigarette smoking and called upon on Gedolei Yisrael to sign announcements ecrying smoking, and he publicized these announcements. He authored the book Chaim L’lo Ishun (Life without Smoking), which has sold tens of thousands of copies and has made a huge impact.
In 5760/2003 he put together a small pamphlet on preventive medicine. Over the years, he has expanded that pamphlet, and it has now become this volume. Rabbi Ishayek sees it as his mission to educate others on proper health and is grateful to Hashem for giving him the gifts and opportunity to do so. As one reader wrote, “Rabbi Ishayek’s desire to help people cries out from the pages of the book.”

- Helpful for the entire familyI would like to thank you for all the benefit that my own mishpacha has had as a result of reading your sefer. Besides what I already mentioned with regard to weight loss and digestive improvement, I want to tell you about my 11 year old son. He has struggled for many years in many areas of his life, including social, behavioral, academic and digestive difficulties. After reading the sefer we explained to him the ills of sugar and chemicals in food and he has embraced the challenge wholeheartedly. It is amazing how an 11 year old boy is able to refrain from eating what most other boys his age eat but he does so with joy and conviction and will not even eat foods like ketchup that have sugar in them. B'chasdei Hashem, the results we are seeing are nothing short of miraculous. He began learning gemara this year. We were every apprehensive before he began, knowing well what sort of challenge that will be for him based on past learning difficulties. To our astonishment and joy, he has been grasping the gamara and keeping up with the class with only minimal help outside of the classroom. His digestive system has greatly improved and even his social and emotional health has benefited. After years of all kinds of therapy and interventions, you have shone the light and helped us discover the root of the problem. We are forever grateful to you.

- Fantastic Book - Both in Content and StyleThis is a great book for those who want to understand from a medical point of view how the Torah's view health really works. My eating habits have been transformed and I feel so much better. My goal was not to lose weight, although a person can lose A LOT of weight just by eating AND DRINKING correctly. My goal was to raise my level of concern and care for my body and I the book has given me the tools and motivation to do so. HIGHLY recommended

- Excellent book - worthwhile to readI read this book 1 yr. ago and have lost 40+ lbs just following the proper way to keep one's body healthy. The book is written very clearly and is very interesting just to sit and read. I have found my cholesterol has gone down significantly, my blood pressure has returned to normal, and I feel much better than I ever did. This is not a diet book; it simply presents a good explanation of how to treat one's body as it should be treated.

- LOVE IT !! AMAZING WORKgreat great SEFER, that teaches according to our torah and rambam the best way for healthy life (not ONLY lose weight) as lets say ANGER is mentioned as being very bad for you.
A must buyPosted on
- A gift from heavenI read this sefer, first in Hebrew, then as soon as it hit the shelves in English. It has the potential to change the lives of hundreds of thousands, for the much better.
In one sentence: How to eat in the way that best matches how Hashem designed our bodies to work.
Did I mention that I've also lost 15% of my body weight, BH, by practicing what I've read?
It's not about the weight, but excess weight is one of the clearest dangers to our overall health and longevity, and as the author explains, if we can't do mitzvos for our fully allotted time, we will be held responsible for that. This book can be your best defense!
Simple English, dotted with stories from the gedolim, and a bunch of humor, too.
Of course, the sources are all authentic: Rambam, Kitzur, and much more.
The best gift you can give your children: your health.Posted on
