When I first got the book, I read it from cover to cover..on a single Shabbos afternoon. I found myself smiling at many of the stories, as I was able to identify myself in similar situations. Then I started reading randomly...where ever I opened, that is what I read. Again I was delighted, because I just knew what Rabbi Gewirtz meant. Now, however, I am learning this sefer. For the first time in a long time, I can say "gee, I never thought of [said situation] that way before" and I started recalling and reflecting - past events in my life - that I should have could have reacted differently. I have learned to see from the 'other side'...and I will admit, I am ashamed of the way I acted in certain situations. BUT I will also add that I am so happy to know that Rabbi Gewirtz sees many things the way I I feel I still have 'mentchlichkeit', and I am a good person. It is easy to read, easy to understand, easy to learn from, and very easy to apply! It is as simple as smiling, and as deep as forgiving (one of the things I had to do). No one like to be told they wronged. This sefer helps one figure that out by themself. And with a bit of effort to change for the better. I thank Rabbi Gewirtz from the depth of my heart for this. May Hashem bless him and his family with kol tuv, nachas, gezunt, and simchas!!

The book on Judaism that resembles haiku poetry. I did not have any expectations upon opening the first page. Then I found beauty, wisdom and joy in each and every article that comprise the latest accomplishment of Rabbi Gewirtz. It is the simplicity of the expression and vignettes we are all familiar with that make it so compelling. In an unpretentious way it gives the reader an insight into oral law, as well as the wisdom of the generations of the observant people reflected in resolving the issues of any ordinary day. It is also a book that makes you smile and keeps you amused throughout. The book you can take with you and read while commuting as well as inspiration for dealing with any deep and serious philosophical questions that are brought up and influence our directions in life.

The Observsant Jew written by Rabbi Jonathan Gewirtz is a compilation of essays in which Rabbi Gewirtz gives his "observations" on every day life. I found his essays to be thought provoking, uplifting and sometimes laugh out loud funny. This is a book where you read, think, absorb and process the message. There are stories that move you and make you a better person. There are stories that set your heart racing as you relate to the message, and there are stories that are sobering. I have learned much, and am totally inspired. I would recommend this book to all and hope every person who buys the book enjoy it on their own personal journey

Sure it's funny and you gain insight, but my favorite part is that each article only takes a few moments to read. Nothing more than four pages. Perfect for our busy lifestyle. When I read it, I get inspired all over again. (Disclaimer: I AM the author, but Feldheim did a fabulous job on this book, and I am thrilled to have merited putting out this work.) Go ahead and read the sample pages. You will love it. This is a book to keep on your shelves for years because you can read the articles and get those inspirations over and over again. IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE. Isn't a better life worth twenty bucks?
