Feldheim has just released the third revised volume of Yaffa Ganz’s medium sized hard cover booklet titled “The Jewish Fact Finder: A Book full of Important Torah Facts and Handy Jewish Information.” In her introduction, Mrs. Ganz writes “Although no book [on the Torah] can possibly include everything, this book is meant to give you, in a handy, easy form, the basic information which every Jew should know. It will not always explain things to you – you’ll want your teacher for that – but it will help you find the facts you are looking for, quickly and simply. It will give you the “bricks” you can use to build your own House of Torah.”
This is an easy and enjoyable reference book that one can use to ask “trivia” questions at the Shabbos or Yom Tov table. I also found it of great value on a professional level when I recently was commissioned to write an article on a lecture delivered on fourth chapter of Megillas Eichah (the Book of Lamentations.) One of the main personalities in the chapter was Yoshiyahu the grandson of Menashe and the great-grandson of Chizkiyahu. Mrs. Ganz’s “The Jewish Fact Finder” helped me to quickly understand what the lecture speaker was discussing. That chart on Malchei Yehuda (the Kings of Judah) on page 21 and the following charts on the Kings of Israel and the Neviim – 48 Prophets and the Seven Prophetesses
would certainly make the study of Tanach a less confusing endeavor. I would recommend this third revised edition as a great gift for children, parents, friends and neighbors of all ages and Torah understanding.
