An Endearing Read for Kids and Parents Alike!

There's a pear tree waiting patiently for young Shimmy and his father to recite a blessing on its blossoms--but wait! Abba has a beautiful project in mind--something he and Shimmy can do together each and every year. This beautifully illustrated, charming book teaches as it entertains, portraying the close relationship between a father and son as they learn a new lesson each year from a stalwart tree. While young children will delight in this book, parents will be moved by its touching lesson.

I'm a former elementary school teacher working part-time in a bookstore. My favorite new children's book is Growing With the Tree by Rachel Stein. In this beautifully illustrated book, a boy and his father say the once a year blessing on a pear tree but first make up a plan to learn something each year from the tree. The boy has real feelings and grows throughout the book until the surprise ending that brings tears to the reader's eyes as one kindergarten teacher shared with me. This is a good book for children from 5 to 12. It should be part of every Jewish family's library.
